So I been reading up on some Lightroom 5 and a very important topic was discussed kn folder management. How to make sure your photos aren’t scattered all over the show.
I decided to share with you the way that I look after my folders and why I do it this way.
I save all my imported images (from camera/memory card) directly into a folder on my hard drive (under the Pictures folder – Windows) called Nikon.
From the Nikon folder I add sub folders broken down into years. 2011, 2012… And that is where all the photosets get saved to.
It’s incredibly easy for me to find what I’m looking for when it is arranged per year.
Now, for each year folder (where by only the current year gets photos added to it) I then create another folder that will store the imported images.
These sub folders with in the parent year folder will be aptly named. Examples:
》JodiEllen_28Jul13
》BHatch_BSB_15May13
》O2_Architect_12Mar12
If a sub folder is properly named, you should find it super easy to keep track of your images.
What is the reason for all of this?
The main reason for this is to make it easier to transfer your images from one place to another. Maybe your drive is getting to full and you upgrade to a bigger drive. Mayne you get a new pc. Also very important is I keep a redundant copy/back up drive where I Copy and Paste my entire Nikon folder too. This doesn’t include the backup drive I use when I import images from my camera/card.
I hope this helps and you are able to keep your images/folders easily organized.
More coming soon.
